How this site makes money, stated plainly and in full - including what a commission does not buy.

By Stephen V.Published How we pick

The short version

Gem & Gild is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

When you click a product link on this site and buy something, we may earn a commission. The price you pay is exactly the same - the commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not out of your pocket. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

How the links work

Every product link on this site goes through /go/, our own redirect. That page looks up the destination server-side and sends you to the retailer. It exists so we can change a retailer in one config file rather than editing hundreds of pages, and it is marked noindex so search engines do not index it.

Every affiliate link carries rel="sponsored nofollow noopener", which is what Google’s link policy requires of paid links, and opens in a new tab.

Every buy button on this site also carries a #ad label and a link back to this page, so you never have to click a commercial link without knowing it is one.

Who we earn from

Currently, one retailer:

  • Amazon — Amazon Associates. Commission rates vary by product category; jewelry is currently in a 4% band.

That is the complete list. Gem & Gild is a new site and has not joined any other affiliate network. Some retailers appear in our configuration as not joined so that a future application would be a one-line change rather than a content rewrite - but no tracking is wired for any of them, and we earn nothing from them today:

  • Brilliant Earthnot joined; we earn nothing
  • Blue Nilenot joined; we earn nothing
  • Monica Vinadernot joined; we earn nothing

What a commission does not buy

This is the part that matters, so it is stated as a list rather than a paragraph:

  • No brand has ever paid for a placement on this site. Not a ranking, not a mention, not a link.
  • We have not accepted a free product from anyone. We have not handled any of the jewelry on this site at all.
  • No brand reviews our copy before it publishes.
  • Commission rate does not affect ranking. The picks are ordered by the published scoring, and every roundup names something we recommend against.
  • We do not remove criticism because we earn on a product. Several products we link to carry an explicit warning about their own material.

About the prices

Prices are pulled live from the retailer and stamped with the date they were checked - currently September 7, 2026. They change without notice and the price on the retailer’s page at the moment you buy is the price that applies, not the one shown here.

If our price data goes more than 48 hours without a refresh, every number on the site disappears automatically and the buttons revert to “Check price”. We would rather show you nothing than a number that has quietly gone stale.

Why we tell you all this

Partly because the US Federal Trade Commission requires clear disclosure of material connections, and partly because a site whose entire argument is that jewelry listings should be honest cannot be vague about its own commercial arrangements.
